How our versioning work

HR Manage is continuously developed with new features and updates and we release multiple versions each year. This article will outline how we’ve versioned our product over the past 10 years.

Version Number Structure

Each version number consists of 4 parts:

Major.Annual.Minor.Build

• Major Version: This version indicates that HR Manage has either undergone a large overhaul or a major new module has been released. We release a major version around every 3-4 years. Version 7 will be released once the web application has been upgraded to the new platform.
• Annual Version: While the Major version usually stays the same, the Annual Version part increments by one at the beginning of every year. The first release in the first half of every year is usually a bit larger in size in terms of feature upgrades.
• Minor Version: Each subsequent version that is released throughout the year, will increment this part of the version by one.
• Build: This number will increase by one every time a new beta version is released. When releasing minor patches within a month of a minor release, we’ll sometimes only increase this number and it would usually result in a differential update (only a couple of files that have changed will be distributed through the automatic updates).

Version Classification

Each release is classified / categorised in one of the following categories:

• Major Upgrade: Represents a release that has had major changes done. Usually used for the first release of the year.
• Medium Upgrade: Represents a release that has quite a number of changes / improvements. Usually used for releases that took more than 2 months.
• Minor Update: Represents a relatively small maintenance release without significant new features. Mostly contain fixes.
• Patch: Relatively small update that fixes a couple of small things shortly after the previous release.

Upgrades

Maintenance and Subscription clients will be upgraded to the latest version without any additional costs. The process involves upgrading the database and application on the server after which the clients will be updated automatically the next time they start their application.
